Students and interns from abroad

If you are studying or doing an internship in the Netherlands, or you are also doing paid work during the period that you have come to the Netherlands to study, read on to find out how this affects your health insurance.

Health insurance and your studies

If you do paid work in addition to your studies, or if you receive payment for your internship, you need to take out a Dutch general insurance policy. CZ offers a special health insurance policy for young adults.
Calculate your premium in just 2 minutes

If you do not do paid work during your period of study in the Netherlands, the cover provided by your foreign health insurance may be adequate. Ask your foreign health insurer whether your policy reimburses medical costs in the Netherlands.

Flexible insurance

If you are living temporarily in the Netherlands and you do not have an income from work, you may face unexpected costs for your healthcare. In partnership with CZ, OOM Specialised Insurance offers you a flexible insurance policy that covers effective and fast healthcare in the event of illness or an accident. This insurance policy is specifically for foreign students in the Netherlands.

  • for a short or long period of residence in the Netherlands (cover for a maximum period of 5 years)
  • also for temporary visits to your home country
  • you decide your cover: medical expenses, SOS insurance or an extensive insurance package
  • reimbursement of travel costs if you have to go home due to serious illness of a family member.
