‘Zorgvariatiepolis’ combination policy to replace the current refund policy from 2024

CZ will be introducing the ‘Zorgvariatiepolis’ combination policy in 2024. This policy will replace the ‘Zorgkeuzepolis’ refund policy.

Changes to reimbursements for non-contracted district nursing and mental healthcare

The terms and conditions and reimbursements of the new ‘Zorgvariatiepolis’ combination policy are largely the same as those of the current ‘Zorgkeuzepolis’ refund policy.

Only the reimbursements for non-contracted district nursing or mental healthcare providers will change from 2024:

  • 2023 ‘Zorgkeuzepolis’ : Reimbursement for non-contracted district nursing and mental healthcare is 100%.
  • 2024 ‘Zorgvariatiepolis’ : Reimbursement for non-contracted district nursing and mental healthcare is capped at 85% (of the rate charged by contracted healthcare providers)

Why the refund policy is being replaced

Non-contracted district nursing and mental healthcare providers often charge more than the average market rate. These higher costs are pushing up health insurance premiums for everyone. With a view to keeping healthcare in the Netherlands affordable and accessible, it has become necessary to replace the refund policy with a combination policy.

Insured persons with a refund policy

All insured persons who opted for the ‘Zorgkeuzepolis’ refund policy for 2023 have received a letter informing them extensively about this change and the (possible) consequences. They will be automatically transferred to the ‘Zorgvariatiepolis’ from 2024, but they can also choose a different policy.
