The deductible explained

The deductible is the amount you have to pay yourself before you start receiving reimbursement for healthcare. You will have to pay the deductible if you are over 18 years of age and need healthcare covered by the general insurance policy.

2 kinds of deductible

There are two kinds of deductible in the Netherlands, the compulsory deductible and the voluntary deductible:

  • Compulsory deductible: For 2024, the compulsory deductible is €385 and it is determined by the government.

  • Voluntary deductible: Additionally, you can choose a voluntary deductible with a maximum of €500 on top of the compulsory deductible.
